Opinions of brands of catalytic converters 200 1986

It's time to replace my cat that I bought from FCP in 2/05 with 100K on it before it started breaking apart and rattling inside. FCP sells the Bosal brand for $125 + shipping and eEuroparts sells Carsound brand (one I have never heard of) for $140 with free shipping. I am looking for a unit that will last for the long haul but cost somewhere in neighborhood of the units mentioned above. Any opinions on these 2 brands of any others would be appreciated.

I bought 2 Davico's(one fixed flange, one spin) from FCP. The quality and fit where very good and also made in New Bedford, MA. It looks like they may only offer them in a spin flange now. 5 years ago I bought a Bosal. For soom reason it was very close to the body at one point.

Hi Bob,

I've only bought two aftermarket cats. First one was listed as "A&B" but came in a box with warranty from Carsounds. I can't remember off the top of my head which car it went on; it has been a while.

Second one was Bosal, just two months ago. I found it also a tad short, maybe 1/4", and its front flange (attached cat pipe model) was built for spin or fixed joint. Obviously I don't have much time on this one at all, but the car with it on did pass our dyno test.

I got a DEC brand for my '87 and have had very good results. Have also passed the Texas two-step for 4 years straight which is amazing since based on data I have seen from this board and other places the failure rate of 87's are pretty high. Mainly Nox. Anyway, the DEC construction, fit and finish are very good. I would buy another.

My IPD replacement made it 61 months and 45K miles before it died.

The original Volvo cat made it 12 years and 207K miles before it died.

I bought my replacement (Borsal)from FCP. I passed the emissions test with flying colors (two speed Texas test)!

The FCP replacement was 1/4 of an inch shorter than the IPD unit, which made me have to use one of those ratchet straps to pull the cat closer to the first muffler, so that I could get a good fit. I also had to message the underside of my car with a 3lb sledge hammer because the end of the cat pipe was bumping my undercarriage. Overall, I am happy with it.

FCP is currently offering 10% off / Free shipping orders over $150 (Net order amount--so buy at least $167 gross!)

Don't forget to buy bolts, a gasket and a clamp for the rear muffler.

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 255K looking forward to 300K badge (or sticker??). >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}

Did they extend the 10% off past 12/31?
