Cam Gear Tips S90-V90

Hey Guys,

I need to take the cam gears off, would you have any tips on doing this? I read the FAQ but do not have the special tool to lock cams in place..

I was thinking to spin the crank until all the marks line up.. Add aditional marks on cam gear/cam shaft for proper location because the gears are adjustable.. Take three bolts off while the belt is on, to preven cam from spinning. Then take belt off, followed by the cam gear...

Does this sound right?

How critical do you think the cam position is since I will be on the same tooth when I put everything back... Just wondering if I can screw it up by being like 1 or 2 degrees out???

Thanks,

Just loosen the three bolts while the belt is still on, that will help hold every thing still, you still might have to hold it by the crank bolt though.
Factory setting for those cam bolts is centered in the slots.

On re-assembly, belt must be tight between the two cams and then down from the intake cam to the crank. Must remain tight in thos areas, some have use zip ties to hold the belt in place while the getting the tensioner in place.

Cam Gear Tips S90-V90

If you notice on the cam gears--the bolt holes in the gears where the bolts hold them down--thier slotted--allowing a little bit of adjustment--I used to rum my intake cam a little advanced--seemed to help the car--any way
I think the way your going about it is right on---just to make sure I would spot the gears in two spots--one being as you said--at the cam gear location with the sheild--another would be to spot it at a couple of the bolt slot locations---that would put it back right in the same timing.

One of the main reasons I ever started doing my own work--indy put my timing belt on--ran it for a couple of years--noticed the car didn't pull right
later decided to do my own belt--intake gear was off 1 1/2 teeth--didn't cause and interference with the cams--but when I got the belt back on I found some new power---
Hope that helps
