Rough idle, stall, racing, but starts OK 200 1991

Car starts fine whether hot or cold. Idle intermittently will run up then down, and/or will drop and eventually stall if I don't kick the accelerator when it does this. The other day the revs went up quite a bit between gearchanges. Engine power seems normal and there is no stumbling or miss on acceleration though there's a slight hiccup when cruising at highway speed sometimes. On a cold start sometimes there is a miss and I have to hit the pedal to keep her going.

This is a 5-speed, 136K miles, LH 3.1 I think.

Any ideas? I'm taking it to my Volvo guy on Monday... hope it's not expensive, just got laid off. If it is the AMM will one form a LH 2.4 car work? There is one on ebay for $30. Thanks.

A good place to start is by cleaning the throttle body and Idle air control valve, they both get gunked up.

The AMM from the LH 2.4 will not work on the LH 3.1, what are the last three numbers on the AMM?

Dunno the AMM numbers, I'll probably try the TB cleaning suggestion tomorrow and will make a note of the AMM number.

Thanks for the suggestions!
