A friend lent me his actron OBD II AutoScanner to check out my 1991 240 wagon with a "check engine" light showing.

I did check the on-board diagnostics and got a "no fault detected" light flash (one flash.....one flash.....one flash).

My question is, where the heck do I plug this actron in? I looked under the drivers side dash but didn't see a port.

Thanks for your advice.

You don't have OBD-II on board (no socket for that code-reader), only OBD-I, and the underhood setup is the only interface. N.M.I. 200 1991

The 240 is NOT OBD-II compliant so there is no place to plug in the Actron. The 240s at least 89 and later are OBD-I compliant. Did you check both connections for 1-1-1 codes... there is one for the ignition and one for the ECU, either one can set of the light.

Sorry Jorrell, I think I tapped the send button prematurely...

I did check both on-board diagnostic ports and received a "no fault" code on both. Is there a way to reset the check engine light and see if it throws again?

Hi there,

To reset your codes, check engine light, and any fuel trim, you can, on your 91, remove fuse #6 for a second and replace it. No need to look for any fuses under the hood, nor wait a minute for anything to discharge. If it is the Service Reminder light you need to extinguish, press the button a good 1/2 inch below the surface of the cluster - as far as it will go.

Did 90 to 91 change that much? Thank you for the corrections!

Since this is a 91, pull the blue spade fuse in the white holder in the driver side inner fender well above the battery with the car turned off. Leave it unplugged for a minute and then plug it back in. If the light is now out, all is good. If not, are you sure it's not the service reminder light that's on and not the check engine light? If it is the service reminder light, press the "reset button" in the lower right hand corner of the face of the instrument cluster.
