I am thinking of purchasing a 1984 gt turbo wagon, does anyone know what type of engine was used for this model? Any opinions on these cars would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

Yes you have a B21FT.I have a 85 244 GLT with the B21FT and it's a great engine.Just to add a little confusion to this thred my 85 was built in 84 which is a problem when you are looking for parts sometimes. I have to say it's an 84 because thay think it's a B230FT and not the B21FT.My question is did any of the 85 240 Turbo's have a B230FT in them? Charlie

No all 240 turbos were K-Jet & B21's
Mid year 1984,as others noted they were intercooled from the factory.
Featuring;
Intercooler,10 psi boost switch above the clutch pedal,10 psi wastegate,
AC shut-off above 6 psi,water cooled turbo, & coolant switched pusher fan for AC at idle

As others have noted--the motor will be a B21FT--totally bullet proof as long as it has oil in it -- and that depends heavily on the condition of the turbocharger. I am in the process of shaping up an '84 GLT Turbo wagon to replace the '80 245 I've been driving. My car has 127K with the original non-water cooled turbo in good shape. My wife's '83 242 Turbo had 200k before I rebuilt the turbo. -- Dave

It'll be a B21FT.... halfway through the model year, they got an intercooler. They use K-jet.

Fine car, but with all the mid-80's Volvo caveats (like bad wiring harnesses).

If in good, well-cared-for condition, I'd go for it!
