Thanks, Alycia

Gauges 200

I'd have to agree with the others here. He already has a Water Temp gauge. Personally, I have the Small Clock, Fuel Economy, Oil Temperature, Oil Pressure, and Voltmeter. I like the way that they work, and I like to know what is going on under the hood. The Economy gauge is probably the most valuable gauge to me, since I can moniter how much toe I have in the throttle, and how much it is costing me to drive that way.

eGauges.com or Summit Racing 200

Summit Racing or Egauges.com, I have ordered from both recently.

The VDO Vision series fits perfectly, you have lots of options and have much better light than the old Volvo gauges. The Volvo gauges were made by VDO by the way. You can get the sending units from either company also. Egauges has the larger selection and you can not go wrong using them.

I have the Voltmeter, Oil Pressure gauge and the transmission temp gauge, and outside temp gauge. Getting ready to move the radio down to the bottom and fill the center top up with the brace and bezel from a turbo donor.

You can save some money (I did) and get the SAE gauges, or pay double and get metric. You can buy some of Dave Barton's white face gauges and covert the SAE to metric if you want to save money and have white faced gauges.

Regards,

Paul

eBay, but isn't that redundant? .... 200

I got all my gauges on eBay because most of them aren't available from Volvo anymore, although the gauge faces I installed over the original faces (see below) came from Dave Barton.

But a water temperature gauge? Isn't this redundant, given that the "temperature" gauge next to the fuel gauge is measuring exactly that, the coolant temperature. There are other choices to select to expand your information: voltage, oil pressure or temperature, manifolt vacuum, etc. Whatever you prefer.

The following picture includes auxiliary battery voltage and ambient temperature:

Nice guages, Why the low idle? 200

I noticed that you have the car running in the pic and it shows the idle being only 400 rpm. shouldn't it be 750-800 rpm? Is the gauge face off a couple of degrees? Or is it a sign of no vacuum leaks at all. You don't have the idle screw in your year correct?

Dave's drawing a little off :-), but no problem .... 200

Yes, the gauge face that Dave made for me is a wee bit off on the scale, but it's of no concern:
1) the dash tach is not suitable for tuning* in any case (divisions are too small for fastidious tuning), as it's scale isn't precise enough;
2) IMHO, the dash tach is only for shifting (i.e., a quick glance as you're watching the road while holding lower gear until you want to let it (viz., AW7_) shift up, and for this the slight inaccuracy of this gauge face is "good enough"; and
3) it's too nice looking to be worth complaining about (Thanks again, Dave, if you're reading this) -- I wouldn't hesitate a minute to get a set for my next 240.

~~~~~~~~
* For servicing, I have a big tach, a 10 inch wide, high and low scale, tach (and other functions) that's nice to use when setting up my '84 (LH2.0). And you're right that my '93 doesn't have a user-adjustable idle -- it's totally under the control of the ECU; and according to my aforementioned "servicing tach", its idle speed is dead-on correct.
Nice job on those gauge faces.
Thanks, but Dave Barton gets the artistic credit :-) ... 200
Don't forget that Dave created them -- all I did was install them (which was fun and easy, thanks to Dave's instructions, too).
Dave has an array of choices -- I liked some, and asked him to combine the blue face with the RallyeSport logos (reminiscent of the actual RallyeSport cluster that I had on an old '73 164 I used to have) -- he did a great job of combining them, and I think he made this a new choice.
And best, they really brighten the gauges at night (a problem of lighting that many of us face with the usual lighting on black face gauges).
Regards,
The dash lights were not on for the photo -- the picture (taken without flash, because I wanted avoid reflections and glare) was just in ordinary daylight -- you can see through the windshield how bright the tire cover (that's a dolphin on it) of my SUV is.
