Serpentine Belt Tool? C70 98

Does anyone know of a tool to remove the serpentine belt on a 2.3L I-5 engine. I've tried numerous breaker-bars, and other things but I cant find anything that will fit properly and move the pulley. I know that ipd makes a tool, but does anyone else make or sell one.

Thank for the help in advance.

Re: Serpentine Belt Tool? C70 98

It is cheap and easy to make your own. Go to the hardware store (Home Depot, Lowe's, ect..) and get a piece of galv aluminum or steel strapping that is 1" wide. These are usually 1/8" to 3/16" thick. You'll need only about 2 inches so don't buy much. Cut a 2-2.5 inch piece off. Place this in the hole of the tensioner cross ways and apply a cresent wrench. Be sure to have a small drill bit to place in the locking holes when they align. Now replace belt and release tensioner.

Best of Luck

Re: Serpentine Belt Tool? S70 1998

The metal strapping worked well for me and this is the recommended approach in the shop manual that I use. I bought a 3 ft x 1 in. x 3/16 in. at Home Depot and cut to 1 3/8 in. Anything longer wouldn't fit on my S70. There was also a hole on the tensioner that lines up with another hole when the tension is released. I inserted an L-shaped hex wrench in the holes which made it easy to remove and replace the belt without the wrench being in the way.

What shop manual do you use? Where can it be purchased?
Thanks...

Re: Serpentine Belt Tool? C70 98

I bought my tool from autozone for about $15 it is a universal serpentine belt tool so you cando all your friends cars as well! Volvo makes a adapter that fits on a 1/2" ratchet or the tool that increases the size to 3/4" but thats all you should need. Good luck!

If I remember correctly, someone used a large square fitting that also worked, and posted about it on here. You might want to try the archives.
