960 Turn signal stuck on steady 900

My 1996 960 Left turn signal is stuck on. Steady light – not blinking (dash arrow, front and rear lights illuminated). When I turn the switch down for left turn, no change. Turn switch up for right turn, right turn things work as it’s supposed to except left light is still on. When I turn on emergency 4 way flasher both right and left lights are on steady with no flashing.

Where did they hide the turn signal and emergency flasher relays in this model? Has anyone ever had this happen or have any idea what might be wrong?

Try replacing both front corner lamp bulbs. The solder will melt on old bulbs and short them out.

The flasher relay is contained in the hazard switch, can not be replaced seperately.

use some dielectric silicone on the bulb socket and bulb bases to
help deter oxidation

960 Turn signal stuck on steady 900

Just wanted to add my own experience - My mom's 960 had the same issue with the same resolution. The front bulb contacts had melted/deformed to a point where they shorting out. I was able to score the bridged contacts, remove a piece of 'solder' and get it working.

I then replaced the bulb - because, after all, its my Mom!

Greetings,

It may also help to clean the lamp ground points to the chassis while the hood is up.
Had a hazard/directional relay/switch out of a car the other day and for future reference the part # for them is 1362740, about $70.00 from TASCA.

Both of the previous suggestions are spot-on. Some years ago, my 1995 960 had this issue with the right turn signal on the dash being on steady (but dimly). The contacts on the turn signal's bulb were melted. It happened again last week whenever the headlights were also ON, but this time it was NOT the bulb's contacts but rather the adjacent grounding block (in this case, "31/2" if you happen to have the factory wiring diagrams). It's located above the battery at the front corner of the fender, easily reached without removing anything. 31/2 was covered with an oily film, which I cleaned with brake cleaner before hitting it all over with a wire brush. Same for the mounting bolt. Both the right headlight and right flasher light share that grounding point, and there's a mirror image on the left side with Block "31/1". So any interplay between the headlight and turn signal circuits occurs at that point.
