hi brickboarders, i am trying to replace all the seals and gaskets on my m40 trans while i have it out but i can't get the rear bearing retainer and speedometer gear off. the manual simply says remove the rear companion flange and take off the rear bearing retainer and speedometer drive gear, but it won't come off. am i missing something? thanks, mike in va.

Hello,

Which manual are you using?

The Volvo green manuals I have show the rear bearing being pressed onto the main shaft.

If I have to change the gasket for the rear bearing retainer, I pull the main shaft from the transmission and partially disassemble the main shaft to remove the rear bearing retainer.

If you do not have experience with manual transmissions, get some help from someone who does, or pay someone to re-seal your transmission.
