Both left door handles have broken the plastic pieces inside that hook the handle to the rod that opens the door. I don't want to pay $70 a piece for new handles. Want to make new pieces. I took back passenger side handle off but can't get it unhooked from the rod. Does anyone know how to get it apart without breaking it? There isn't much room to work with. One thing, the rod has a piece like a "J" at the bottom of it like it's there for installation and removal purposes, but I pulled on it and couldn't get it to come loose. Was afraid to pull too hard. Does anyone know how these can be taken apart? Any ideas? Thanks. KM

The plastic part that broke on the handles are also used on 740 models and are much heavier parts--strength wise---If I remember correctly the part has two screws holding it on and the wire threads on by turning the handle from side to side to thread it off and back on--by just replacing the plastic part--you can use another plastic part from either side of a donor car --or handle. Volvo will not sell the little plastic piece to you--the one that keeps breaking.
