Shelf Life of Oil 200

I'd like to stock up on motor oil when it's on sale. What is the shelf life of dino and synthetic oil? Thanks in advance.

The new plastic containers tend to split at the seam long before the oil goes bad. I've had that happen on a couple of brands.

There's some irony, huh? Plastic manufactured from oil not able to last long enough to use the product that it contains. I wonder how much money the oil companies spent developing that little wrinkle. Don't they have a high enough return on their investment?

    According to Exxon-Mobil 200

I called Customer Service at Exxon-Mobil. They said that Mobil 1 Synthetic has a shelf life of only 5 years due to condensation that can produce acids. I didn't ask them this, but oil is not water soluble, and those containers are air-tight, so how can condensation affect the oil?

Unlimited in the original container. No worries about API ratings being superseded on these old cars.

I think that is a good answer, Rhys. In theory, at least, it seems that there might be some degredation over time, but I think I'll be dead long before it would make any real difference.
