Abbreviated method for replacing front coil springs (not strut inserts)? 200 1992

Hey,

My new springs are coming today and I want to throw them in. I won't be doing the strut cartridges this go-round. Out of money for now. My labor is, however, free to me.

So: what is the MINIMUM amount of disassembly I will need to perform to swap in the new springs? Can I not disassemble the tie rods? Not disassemble the brake hose bracket? How little can I get away with for just the spring swap?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah... you really do the strut procedure and just not replace the struts: Tie rod, sway bar link, brake hose bracket, loosen strut nut with impact wrench, strut mount nuts, lower the assembly, compress spring, remove the strut mount, and remove spring.

Keep in mind that when you compress the old springs to relieve pressure on the top mount they are already compressed from their full length---you need to position the compressor so when you back it off it will release the spring safely. -- Dave

I don't know of any way to change out the springs without going through all of the steps that changing out the struts would entail. The only consolation prize that I see is you probably won't have to use your spring compressor on the new sport springs. Good luck, and be careful. Those springs can be nasty.
