trying to start engine 900 1993

Hello fellow Brickboarders , I am looking for info to check why the engine will turn but not fire and start . The engine was just rebuilt on the top end the position of the timing ign. is probably off but I have tried several positions the engine turns over fast but no firing

When you say "no firing," do you mean no spark? Randy may be right; it could be bad alignment of the timing belt. But, no spark can also mean bad ignition coil, bad Power Stage, bad rpm sensor, or break in wiring to one of above. Go to www.stepbystepvolvo.com for free guide to 740 (B230) no-starts.

I would begin by positioning the engine at TDC on the compression stroke and check to see that the cam gear is pointing to its mark on the back of the timing belt cover.

If it is turning over "fast" or faster than normal I would guess the cam/crank timing relationship is off... a lot.

Randy
