Deciphering the VIN info 120-130

Sorry if I missed this on the board, but I was hoping that someone could show me where the upholstery codes can be found.

I believe the web vlvworld.com ought to have that info. The Yankee trading company is another source in PA for upholstery.

Deciphering the VIN info 120-130

Hi my friend. If I recall this correctly, the upholstery code is on the same or an adjacent line as the paint code on the plate in the engine compartment. I know that Olof at vintageimportparts.com, amongst a whole slew of equivalent suppliers, carries period correct upholstery panels for all this old Swedish iron. Have your cardiologist, banker, and ambulance pre-dialed on a conference call for best results. There are subtle, but important differences, in the period correct panels amongst the different years, if that matters to you. Best of luck!

Too funny - I will make sure to be sitting down before I call Olaf.

Good to know the patterns are available still since the seats in the 1968 are pretty freaking cool. These seats are so much better than seats I've seen on most of other cars of the same vintage.

The VIN should look like this:

Photobucket

If you click around on the following link, you should be able to find out everything about your car as it came out of the factory:

http://vlvworld.com/indexframe.html?VIN.html

I bet (if you are talking about your '65 2-door) the first line "Typ/Type" would be something like 13244VE for a P130 (2-door 122-> first two digits "13"), with a B18D dual carb engine (the third digit "2"), made for US export (the fourth digit "4"), with a M40 transmission (fifth digit "4), a left-hand drive car (sixth digit "V"), and made for the 1965 model year (seventh digit "E").

The second line is the chassis number "Ch. Nr." and should be the production number of the finished P130 (Note not all bodies made at the factory became finished cars) and the chassis number should be between 84600 and 144400 for a '65 P130 (I have a titled '67 P120 Β-door 122] that actually is a '66 model based on the production model numbers.)

The third line is body color "Farg/Colour" and I posted the color code in a previous post of yours.

The fourth line is the upholstery color "Kladsel/Uphost" and the color code should be one of the followed:

416-514 red
417-515 black
418-516 hide
419-517 blue
420-532 red
421-533 blue
423-535 green
424-551 red
425-552 hide
426-553 green

Post your VIN information on both your car.

Paul

Tom-

Well, This is what I come up with:

For your '65 (which is really a '67? according to the VIN Plate)

Type (133441M): It's a P130 (2-door), with a B18B dual carb high compression engine, US export, M40 tranny, LHD, 1967 Model Year.

Color (91): Light Green

Upholstery (426-553): Green

For your '68 (which is really a '68)

Type (133461P): It's a P130 (2-door), with a B18B dual carb high compression engine, US export, BW35 auto tranny, LHD, 1968 Model Year.

Color (46): Red

Upholstery (417-515): Black

The stuff at the bottom is special equipment codes (S-Codes), but none of them (5250, 5343, 5371) are known off of the only site that has a listing of S-codes:

http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/typeinformation/typeinformation.html

For your '65 ('67?), you might want to match the chassis number on the body (shows you where it's located on the link above) to the chassis number on the title.

Paul

Thanks for posting this. I know that the information is out there, and I have snippets of it, but being able to put my fingers on it and post it is quite a different task."I'm only $4,500.00 away from a pretty good $3,500.00 car"
