Adjustable IPD torque rods 88 240 200

Has anyone used these rods from IPD? My bushings are done and for the cost 150 already pressed and ready to go seems like a good deal.

Lowered 240 with stock torque rods 200


In theory, the trick torque rods are needed to set pinion angle on a lowered car. In practice, I ran my V8 (below) with IPD lowering springs and stock rubber-bushed rods well over 100,000 miles with no ill effects such as shudder on acceleration, etc.

True, the rear of the body was offset about 1/4" to the right with the stock track rod—but it was not obvious to the eye.

You are right on target. The point has been made about lowered car mine is lowered and I still have not had the time to changed them. a lowered car does change the pinion angle as do bad bushing. when you check the cost of the poly bushing and rubber bushing and the effort to get them off, I would go with the adjustable torque arms. Check your pinion angle first and the rear trailing arm bushing to make sure they are not bad as well. Greg

As the others have stated, the only reason to change the length of the Torque rods is to compensate for a modification that you did on the rear suspension, i.e. Lowering the car.

Yes I have, and with good results. The adjustment part of the rods is of limited value if your car isn't lowered, but they are built like a bridge and very neat looking. The cool blue powdercoating is only visible with the vehicle up in the air, or worse yet, upside down. I would recommend them in a heartbeat, as the, uh, joy of taking out the old bushings quickly wears off.

Do it. I did mine over 70,000 miles ago along with full poly bushings, lowering springs, HD Bils, IPD sways and an adjustable panhard rod. Handles like it's on rails.

The adjustable torque rods allow you to get the proper pinion angle. A must if your '88 is lowered like mine.

It all depends on how much you really want to put the money into a part you won't see but once in a while laying on your back. If there isn't a need for adjustable then how will you know if they are adjusted correctly or to factory spec. I guess comparing to the old would work.

I removed mine, took them (they are small) to my old mechanic and he pressed them out for $10. Same with the center driveshaft bearing. I ended up towing a stranded 940 into his shop a couple months later that I happen across in town to return the favor.
