New alternator - very different??? 200 1993

I have been experiencing low voltage output on my alternator (even at higher engine rpms). So today I set out to replace it - a job that is not new to me on previous 240s. However, I found myself a bit stumped this time. The part that I was sent is quite a bit different than the original. I am thinking that I was sent the wrong part, but want to get confirmation here. I would rather not deal with modifying the wiring to this extent.

(The clean one is the new one ;-) )

Thanks for your input.

Regards,
Ted

That alternator looks akin to the Nippon Denso one found in 740/940's. Could/should work. Big wire on the big stud, "exciter" wire on the little recessed tab, and I think a ground on any of the nuts there.

Check the brush length in the old alternator. That may be the only problem you have... which is the only problem I've come across with Bosch alternators They're pretty long lived.

I think you are right on the alternator. I'd rather not do the wiring retrofit though. As far as I know I should still be able to get the correct part. I am liking the idea of replacing the brushes and regulator. Over the years I've found that the remans last about 50% of the life of the original; so this is worth a shot.

I don't blame you. I switched "styles" on the 740. Everything fits OK, just a little tricky to get it all on. The 240 alternator is in a heck of a lot tighter space than the 740. No fun! :-)

Good luck!
