another shift lock issue 92 240 200

I needed to remove the carpet today because it was damp.In doing so I had to move shifter a couple of times. Now the car does not start. When I removed the shifter cover I saw that the yellow lever was not attached to anything. This is my first car with a shift lock so I do not know how that piece is supposed to look when it is in the right place.Does anyone have a pic or can take a pic and post it here.Or I need to know how and what to remove to make this car start without this feature. This shifter will move into all positions. Before this problem everything worked fine.I could here the solenoid clicking when I stepped on the brake. Now nothing. The car is taking up two parking spots and I really need the room. Please help.Thanks.

Hi there,

If it doesn't crank, it might be the plug that connects the neutral safety switch is loose, or the shifter isn't engaging the switch. See backup light fix.

Shift lock is separate from no crank.

Thanks Art B. for the pics, they help alot.I also did a search for this problem and someone mentioned just beaking the lever off.Since mine was already broken and removed I figured it should start no problem. My dash lights would come on but a little dim, then I rememberd,I had left the overhead light on for a while before I noticed it was on.Then I tested my battery and guess what it was way low, 6 volts.Recharged and re -tried and vroom the car starts and now no shift lock either.Killed two birds. Thanks again. Now I can rest.
