Knock sensor code 143 700 1989

My 89/740 has the code of 143. I checked the posted message on this code and it said to change the electronic temp sensor. My question is this the ECT are the temp gage sensor.Has anyone else had this problem.I've check all the wires back to the computer and seems to check out good.I don't see how the ECT can cause a knock sensor code.

I found the problem. The connection that goes around the sturt back to the fire wall was dirty.I cleaned the connection and reset the code reader after a week I haven't got a check engine light. Thanks for all replys.

I second that experience. Cleaned the connector behind the strut tower on the 945, and the light has not come back on in the 2 weeks since.

WHAT? I had some doubts but it looks like the publication was correct! The test signal was missing. Please post when you correct issues. Maybe you did but I did not see it. As aleekat says, "Post Back. That's whats makes this forum work".

Tom,

thanks for the reminder, I've now posted a detailed response in the other thread in the 900 forum.

I've been focusing my attention on getting the 240 back on the road over the past few weeks, and following up with the 940's annoying gremlins wasn't on my radar.

Is yours Bosch or Regina? It might make a difference, although I doubt it.

I have had knock sensor code issues with my 1993 945 Regina the whole time I've owned it. It is not a problem in winter, but is a royal PITA from April to October.

Just this evening I checked the wiring for continuity between the connector at the sensor and the connector at the ECU. Cleaned the big plug behind the strut tower, where the harness under the hood connects with the harness that runs inside the car. Code did not reset on the test drive, but tomorrow AM with completely cold car will be the real test.

things to check:
-is the sensor correctly torqued?
-is the connector on the sensor pointed to the 3 to 5 o'clock position (AWAY from the alternator)?
-have you thoroughly cleaned the contacts on the sensor and the connector?
-have you checked for intake leaks?
-is the pre-heat intake blocked shut, so the airbox only takes in cool air?

Having seen someone with an 850 cure this problem by replacing the fuel filter, I did that on mine a few weeks ago. No change whatsoever.

The temp gauge sensor is closest to the radiator. The ECT is under the intake manifold. I looked through the FAQs and didn't see anything about replacing the ECT for a knock sensor code. What's your reference for this?

I believe the plugs for both the knock sensor and temp sensor are the same. Could they possibly be reversed??

They're the same style connector, but I seriously doubt there's enough slack in the wires to actually do that. The knock sensor should have a green wire, approx 1/8" diameter.
