Strut tube removal- best way to deal with the ABS sensor? 700 1988

1988 744t M46od 199k

Having replaced the rear shocks I want to move on to replacing the strut inserts.

I was glad to see the brake line supports are not part of the strut tube (as in the 240’s) so I plan to simply take the caliper loose and hang it in the fender well.

This car is equipped with ABS and I am wondering if the safest way to deal with the sensors is to disconnect the wire in the engine compartment and leave the sensors and wires attached to the strut assembly?

Thanks for your help.

Randy

Randy if you are very carefull you can do this job with both lines attached, i have done it a few times, its possible to get the strut tower assembly to lean out of the fender and give you access to pull the strut out, there is just enough length in the lines but you have to be very carefull that you dont pull it out to far otherwise it will put pressue on the lines. removing the stearing shaft is helpfull here but can be a problem to get it out, the last time i did this i left it in place and delt with it.
