B18B Carb set-up 444-544

I have read all I can find about the B 18 engines and most of what I read says that the B18B engine was never offered for the PV544. My engine seems to be a B18B because my engine has the "intermediate piece for the positive ventilation crankcase (B18B early production.)" between the Carb and air cleaner.

2 questions:
1. Does anybody know where I can get gaskets for that device and the carbs?
2. There are three B18B engine combinations (according to the service manual) type 1, type 2 and type 3. There is a difference among the horsepower output for the three types. Does anybody know how to tell the difference between the types?

Thanks!!

Nearly all of the B18s sold in the US were either B18D or B18B,
The adapter between the carb and air filter probably doesn't need gaskets, but if you really want them,
you can make them out of a file folder. Be SURE they have the 2 small holes above the main bore.
Those allow air into the domes and allow the pistons to lift.
If you will post the number on the driver's side of the block above the breather box, partly cast and
and partly stamped, 4968 and the following two digits, I can tell you what engine it is, if it is original.
(that is, assuming unmodified, no head swaps, etc.)

Hello,

I think you are talking about the breather adapter that is supposed to be sandwiched between the forward carburetor and the forward air filter.

If so, then you need some air filter base gaskets and I have those in stock.

The difference between the engines are usually different cylinder head, camshaft and carburetor combinations.

Besides the B18A, B, and D, there were also B18 number types 1, 2, and 3. The major differences between the types 1, 2, and 3 were cams and heads. The major differences between the types A, B, and D were the carbs. Various combinations of cams, carbs, and compression ratios produced different power levels.

The fuel injected engines were designated E or F.

I have wondered why there was never a B18/20C. Any speculation on that one?
