Universal O2 Sensor with EGR 900 1995

From what I gather from the archives, the Bosch 13953 is the correct generic part number for the O2 sensor. However, this gets more complicated when I check the FAQs. Also, I have seen (I think between FCP or eEuro) that one lists a different part number for cars with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), and the other does not.

The FAQs has a link to a table (http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineSensorOxygenReplacements.htm). It gives different information for the EGR car, which it describes it as 940NA (LH)+ with California emissions (EGR): Bosch Direct fit or OEM sensor.

I don’t know what the LH stands for, and I thought that EGR was not limited to California in the later years.

So, does anyone know if the Bosch 13953 is correct for a 1995 940 with a B230-FD with EGR, or do I need a direct replacement?

Thanks,
Charley

That is the same one I bought for the 240 or one of 940s all with Luftmassenmesser Hitzdraht 2.4 ignition systems, most with EGR. You will not find anyone betting their life that the Bosch 13953 is the absolute correct replacement but there are a quite a few expert opinions. I won't lose any sleep after I install it. Make sure the total cable lengths are the when you splice it in.

Also, IMHO, you can crimp or solder the new connections.

At least now I know why we simply call them "LH" systems.

Though life is not at stake here, there are only two technologies for the sensor across B230 motors: zirconia for LH (Bosch fuel) and titania for Regina (Bendix fuel). Both are three wire, heated sensors, but not interchangeable. If there's any difference at all based on EGR it could only be a cable length issue, and I doubt very much they'd make two of the same type with such similar overall length cables.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over the solder vs crimp debate either. The Bosch universal comes with some nice oil-tight crimp splices.

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Thanks Everybody,

I'll stick the universal in and see how it does.
