Cruise control questions 700 1991

Can someone tell me please if the standard transmission cars use the same vacuum release switch for the clutch pedal as the automatic cars use for the brake pedal? It would seem reasonable that the only thing needed to install a unit from an auto equipped car on a standard transmission car would be a second switch T'd into the vacuum line.

In the image below do I have all the bits needed to install the cruise control on a prewired (US market) car?

Thanks,

Randy

The switch is the same. With the vacuum tee and hoses.

I cannot answer your question, but fyi, a non-working cruise control on my 1990 745T several years ago stumped the local commercial mechanic, and then kept one junior mechanic busy, with one senior mechanic occasionally helping out, at a nearby big city Volvo dealership for about 4 or 5 hours a few years back. Two defects were going on simulteneously, it turned out. The cruise contr. has been working great ever since, and the dealership did not even charge me a lot for the work. This is for your information, may be of use.

Regarding defective parts: the receipt from back then - mileage was 144,315 - from the nearby big city Volvo dealer says: replace the vacuum pump, install customers control box adjust switch.
That was March 7, 2003.

Second bill of the same date from a local commercial mechanic here in my small town - good man, was a young mechanic , is no longer operating that shop - says diagnos cruise control 2nd time
This was subject to an arrowed caption that says
work done over time.

I also had bought a part or two from the junkyard Volvo dealer up in the northwest part of the state - Wisconsin here - for this project. You can see that the Volvo dealer was kind and installed my own part, and also sourced a used second part - the vac pump - to install.

It did take them a long time to fix the problem. My impression was that they were all getting nervous. I wasn't upset, they have a pleasant carpeted clean customer waiting area in the new car showroom there, upholstered furniture, big potted plants, good coffee, quiet surroundings, and I had brought a ton of work to do along. Did not frown at them, act nervous or otherwise complain in any way about the time or apparently mounting bill, and remember thinking that may have been a big part of why they charged me only a couple of hours of work for a lot of effort on their part.

This project - fixing the cruise control - was expensive in aggregate, but as I mostly wrote this morning, the cruise control is great on this car and has been working flawlessly ever since the spring of 2003.

Re: what werre the defects. I cannot remember at the moment and am remote from the service record. I will check it and post back a little later today.

BTW, the cruise control on the car is and has been, since the repair, always spot-on, it is great to use. It is much more accurate than the old GM (1970s era) cruise controls that I remember from youth and long trips midwest - Fla Gulf Coast from back then with the big, new and professionally well-maintained GM Chev. and Oldsmobile wagons that we used.
