940 shifter connection to transmission sliping out 900 1995

My problem is the connection that connects the gear shifter keeps backing out and disconnects from the transmission leaving me in the position of getting under the car and pushing the plastic connection back into the transmission. It will last a week or so and it slides back again. Winter is comming and idea to fix cheap.

Thanks Denis

The shifter arm is held to the long transmission control rod with a metal pin inserted into a rubber bushing. The pin is secured by a small circlip. If you are missing the circlip, the rod will disconnect. See this FAQ section:
http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/TransmissionAuto.htm#Automatic_Shifter_Is_Loose

Make sure when you insert the circlip that you push it firmly home, else it can fall off.
