1972 145 simple questions 140-160 1972

A few basic 1972 145 questions:

1. What is the latch mechanism for lifting the rear seat bottom up? Is it one lever that releases both sides like on later 245 wagons? I felt around and couldn't find a lever of any sort. Seats have been recovered so it's possible that the original latching mechanism is gone.

2. This is the first '72 that I found that does not have 3 point seat belts in the rear. Is it likely that the mounting points are there for installing three point seat belts?

3. Has anyone installed a rear facing third row seat from a 245 into a 145, complete with seat belts?

4. Headliner is trashed, will a 245 headliner fit and any tricks/tips regarding removal/installation?

    1. No latch. The seat bottom tips forward so that the back can fold down.
On the back, my 73 has a handle in the upper corner on each side for that side's latch only.
    You gotta work'em both.
    2. My 73 has the shoulder belt hooked to the vertical rod in the back side window.
The lap belt is bolted to the fender well.
    3. I haven't but I can't imagine it would be an engineering nightmare.
    4. Dunno. Got a green manual?

    2. This is the first '72 that I found that does not have 3 point seat belts in the rear. Is it likely that the mounting points are there for installing three point seat belts?

The nuts are there for the seat belts. My '68 142 had no seatbelts, but the nuts where there.

    3. Has anyone installed a rear facing third row seat from a 245 into a 145, complete with seat belts?

I had a 7 seater '74 145, but the '74 rear bodywork is pretty much the same as the first 245's. Pre '74 cars have a different rear & tank so it's unlikely to bolt straight it, but it probably physically fits.

    4. Headliner is trashed, will a 245 headliner fit and any tricks/tips regarding removal/installation?

Maybe, but the early headliner is more robust than than you find in the last 140 & early 240's. To get it out, grab one of the front corners by the edge & pull forward, a strip which holds it in will disengage & all will be revealed.
