740 neutral safety switch 700 1992

I need to replace the neutral safety switch in my '92 740. I have had the gearshift apart but could not slide the switch off the mounting pins. There just is not enough clearance in there. How does the whole gearshift come apart?
I removed the shaft, shift lever, and indicator lamp, and large snapring on the plastic bushing assembly and cannot see how the larger piece left comes off.

Thanks to all in advance for any help provided

Hi, I just replaced mine last week.To remove the NS Switch you need a 1/4 drive ratchet/socket holder/phillip bit as the screw holding the switch is on the side. Or you could use a small vise grip to remove the screw (2pcs.) holding the switch in place. The way you discribe it I think you are way ahead by removing stuff that doesn't need to be removed to replace the switch. Good luck.

    Mike

Thank you for the reply. Mine is held in by two small pushnuts that also secure the indicator lamp. When I try to slide the switch off of the mounting pins it contacts the side of the gearshift housing. Maybe different setups across the years? I don't want to risk breaking the plastic pins.
