Mystery (to me) Fuel Hose 200 1981

I have this fuel hose which I ordered by mistake quite a while ago. It is a "J" shape, 5/16" diameter, and about 8" long. There is a small banjo fitting on one end and a swivel nut on the other. The part number is 1219889. Can anybody tell me what models this fits. I would like to get rid of it.

Mystery (to me) Fuel Hose (calling Art B.) 200 1981

That numbe isn't in the Volvo Quick Reference Parts Catalog (1992 or 2002), but Tasca shows it as:

Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
1219889 $30.01 $0.00 $22.44
FUEL PIPE

Maybe Art Benstein has it on his /fiche.

Never tried that reverse look-up before today. Fiche says that's the fuel pipe for #3 cylinder on all non-turbo k-jets; B19E, B21E, B23E, and B21F.

The Price sounds about right and it sure looks like a fuel line. It may well have a plastic k-jet type line inside the rubber hose. I have an '81 non-turbo k-jet and the lines between the fuel distributor and the injectors are much longer than this.

I don't blame you for being skeptical. It would not be the first time blue-bag Volvo parts were incorrectly packaged. When you described it as 5/16 thick, I was also not expecting it to be a k-jet fuel line, which, is .237 (6mm) thick outside diameter (closer to 7/32 than 5/16), .087 (2.25mm) ID, and should have a protective rubber cover about 5/8 inch in diameter. The pipes to injector #3 and #4 on your 81 are the shortest of them all, given the distributor is directly below them. I'd guess they are maybe 8" including the "J" bend, but in any event, don't match your 5/16 inch thick description at all.

Banning the bra was a big flop.

You must be right. I looked at my engine and yes #3 is closer to the fuel distributor than I remembered. The 5/16" was an eyeball guess at the hose ID. Last and not leased there is a piece of yellow tap around the swivel nut end with #3's on it.

What confuses me is the swivel nut connection. My injector connections have a simple nut and furle on the black plastic tubing inside the rubber hose. The furle is like the oval sleeve on copper tube compression fittings. This new hose has a flat-faced fitting inside the nut. The injector itself looks like it takes a flare or inverted-flare fitting. What kind of mess have I got?

"This new hose has a flat-faced fitting inside the nut."

Look real close at that flat face. There is a rounded surface behind it. Like someone cut a slice off a ball. The rounded (convex) hose fitting part fits to the matching rounded (concave) "socket" in the injector head.
It's the old "male/female" thing.

Then Mandon S. Brontes, esq. must value his arm in the $30 range, eh?

Too bad he wasn't interested in that crappy plastic stuff. I still have an assorted few NOS lines from my B-D Engineering haul in CT years ago.

I hear you. I wish that trademotion catalog got updated to reflect true availability as often as the prices get updated.
