in relation to this (http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1390170/740/760/780/740_shudder_braking.html) previous post - replaced the front discs and pads, cleaned up the calipers and inspected all other braking components (found caliper guide pins sticky, cleaned and lubed) but still have the same problem - under braking a distinct shudder or pulsing grab that appears to come from the back end - problem is less pronounced than previous but still very noticeable - any help????

after further investigation it appears that it was a faulty ABS system - at this point i have just removed the fuse to bypass the system, maybe someday i'll get around to sourcing the problem - although it's likely the wheelspeed sensor assembly on the front as they were quite rusted, from my understanding they generate and relay a small AC current which is relative to wheel speed and relayed to the control unit - for now though she's a non ABS brick! thanks for the thoughts and advice

My 940 shuddered like that when I got it. What fixed it was new "cone" bushings where the strut/stay/radius rod attaches to the control arm. I used IPD's blue poly bushings. Been good for 6+ years now.

The shudder/pulsing appears to be coming from the rear and you replaced the Front Rotors?

after inspection i saw that the front rotors needed to be replaced due to scoring and minimum thickness requirements - for the last couple of months this problem has always "felt" like it was coming from the rear but after inspecting the rear brake assemlies on both sides and finding them sound i decided to replace the front rotors and pads as they were clearly in need of it - as i said before the problem has been relieved somewhat but it still noticeable - if it was a 10 on a 1-10 scale before its maybe only a 4-5 now

Maybe all four Rotors were warped?

Maybe pull the tires off the rears and let the car idle in Gear and see if the rotors wobble.
