The VPD SP cam is pretty much a D cam on the inlet with an Isky VV-71 on the exhaust, there's nothing interesting about it other than it is dual pattern.

I would simply ask Isky if they could do you a cam with a VV-61 inlet & VV-71 exhaust if this is for anything with twin SU's or D-Jet injection, but regardless of what you get, dual springs are highly recommended, even at low speeds they improve cam & valve seat longevity

From a good source, Vpd used to get cams from bob griffith or still does im not sure. Maybe still does. And bob used to get them from John Delong - a cam grinder in california.

Has anyone tried any KG-trimming cams? I may be able to get some from a relative over there but dont know if anyone used them or not. Vpd gets their cams from somewhere in california.

If you're willing to buy from Sweden, check out the Enem K17 -- it's a very nice street performance cam.

Who makes the Emem 17 cams? Is there a website? I can use the google translator to read it.

Hi Phil, have you got any measurements on the K17?

No, but a friend used one in his B20 and got a very wide, flat torque curve -- more of a straight line than a curve, really. He ran it on three different dynos with several stages of other engine mods, and it stayed flat even as it got higher. I think that's pretty desirable for a street engine.

I'm guessing it's about 24°@.050" smaller than yours. That would be OK with SU's or D-Jet, but I really think more timing on the exhaust is the way to go when you are staying with stock valve sizes.

Enem's website. Doesn't work right with Firefox, use Explorer or something.

http://enem.se/kamaxlar.asp#VOLVO

I don't see any prices listed here, can't read enough Swedish to find a price list, if there is one.

Clicking around a little with some ultra-rudimentary Sweidsh - I get to:

http://butiken.enem.se/katalog.asp?Refnr=1582

Which allows me to search for B20/ENEM Kamlaxlars, and I see they cost:
2 437,50 kr

Go to XE.COM, and:

2,437.50 SEK = 337.470 USD

Generally speaking, as a buyer outside the EU, you won't have to pay Sweden's heft VAT (which is somewhere between 20 and 25%?), but shipping will be pretty pricey. In very general terms, you can sort of take their prices as shipped prices, more or less.

I also see that they make cams for B234 16V Volvos. Fun, I might be interested in something like that for my 245 wagon! But they cost:
5 750,00 kr

which equates to 796.035 USD.

Oy, 16V - twice as much money. They sure do flow nicely though.

That page is a somewhat useful reference, but a lot of the numbers are educated guesswork. I've measured the heck out of an Enem K19, and it has 20 degrees more duration at .050 lifter rise than that chart indicates.

To md122s, having read various issues on jp, this was what i was affraid of and was wondering if the product was worth the risk. I was hoping Phil might have the solution for me, and to that end i might have to consider the reweld/regrind option. Phil, if you get some blanks, please let me know. To swift justice, thanks for the tip and i'll have a look there as well.

Might also check with KGTrimning?

They have a variety of B20 cams from mild to wild.

I would never order anything from vpd, the guy is an out and out crook, liar and cheat, Voice of experience, took my money and no parts ordered in Sept 09, wont answer calls or emails, check the New York BBB several complaints.

I think VPD puts out some excellent product. Years of trial and error combined with some math have allowed them to offer "tried and true" product. I have no doubt whatsoever that their products will perform to the level advertised.
That having been said, I ordered an all steel timing set for my B20 last year. Paid a premium but that was to be expected. What I didn't expect was it to be a stock Cloyes item. How fast can you afford to go has always been a limiter for me as I have several drivable Volvos; noneare stock. I ended up using a VV71 cam from Isky; Rhys told me this was as agressive as I wanted to go w/o rattling the SU's at idle. I've been very satisfied. They grind them to order and have a wide selection available for B18/20's. They also offer the lightweight SBC lifters and longer push rods as well as the double springs. Their price is very good as they are not filling a "niche" market but rather selling cams of every description to the general public.

Hi Phil, how does your 274 street performance cam compare.cheers

REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE    PRINT   SAVE

vpd cam 120-130

I believe the VPD cam is 264 degrees intake duration and 268 exhaust duration, so the 274/274 is a step up from that. Unfortunately, there are none right now -- no one has any blanks, so we can't grind cams. We're working on having blanks produced, but I don't know when that will happen.

The alternative is to weld up used cams and grind those (nothing inferior in doing that), but it's more expensive.

I think Phil Singher has used them. He is on the 1800list among others.

I used one on an engine I built for a customer five or six years ago, and he was plenty happy with it. That's the only time.
