My wife used her 940T to fill her buck tag last year. She was going at least 65 mph when she bagged the big forked horn. Damaged parts were hood, grill, grill supports, radiator, AC condenser, intercooler, water pump, timing belt cover, air box, head light assemblies, turn signals, upper radiator hose, radiator supports on both sides, engine splash pan, and charcoal canister and bracket. I probably forgot something. The fenders were pushed about one inch apart at the front. I think I spent about $600 to repair the car. It took several months to find all the correct parts cheap. It drives fine, and everything works. I told her not to drive at night near Kahlotus, WA. The accident happened 300 miles from our home. I rented a tow dolly to retrieve the car.
The picture below shows the car today. It was a lot of work to repair.

Great job on the repairs, $600 is real good for a bill to put it back together.
I hope you ate deer steaks that night.

The accident happened on a Friday night. I was about 300 miles away, at home, so I could go to work on Saturday. Although she gutted the deer (the intestinal contents were all over the windshield and roof), she let it spoil alongside the road.
I had to be quite resourceful to spend only $600 for the repairs. Just the radiator ran almost $150.

I've always been a proponent of heavy, slow moving projectiles for dropping game quickly. You have just added ammo to my argument.

Next thing, add some deer whistles to the front bumper. After my wife did the same thing last year( except more extensive damage to repair) I finally gave in and put those things on all the vehicles. I kind of hate to have them because after you go by all the deer come running back out onto the road behind you to see what it was that went by, but at least they got out of your way... The guy behind you will get the whole herd though. That used to bother me until my useless ex insurance company left me holding the bag and I ended up paying the repairs myself even though I had full coverage , now, I let the guy behind me worry about buying his own deer whistles.

Wow, lucky thing she was not hurt. And nice work fixing it up: you must have some pick-n-pulls in the neighborhood (which I do not). Enjoy the venison.

Dear John,
May this find you well. Awesome restoration!!!
I'd say you got a lot of bang for the buck!!!
More seriously, hunting is best done with a rifle/shotgun or bow/arrows, than a 940....
Yours faithfully,
Spook

I'm not sure a gun is better for hunting. The story where I once worked was that I had killed more deer with my 240 than most of them had with their gun. I took out 4-5 in two seasons. I ran through a whole herd one night on the way to work. Two weeks after getting the car back from the body shop, I nailed one at 55 mph and it exploded! I even had deer remains on the back bumper.
Insurance fixed it every time with no questions. However, my agent recommended I find a different way to work (which I did). He said they will sometimes refuse to renew comprehensive coverage if it keeps happening.
Best,
Patrick

Dear Patrick,
May this find you well. Perhaps Volvo should have built a special model: the deerslayer, with a "roo bar", a heavy-duty front-end guard, to protect the grille, lights, etc.
Yours faithfully,
Spook

You've sold me some parts I couldn't get locally. As you may remember, I had two cars that hit deer.

Hi,
After reading your post I felt your pain & hopefully, your relief thaT the Volvo performed as engineered.
A few years ago my wife totalled my mint 242 hitting a deer.. It was on my birthday& I was out of town that wkend. At first, I was "What!!!" then I realized that my wife who was, obviously, way more important than the 242 had walked away unscathed.
I loved the 242 but I love my wife way more11
Rich
