240 Heater Valves, Early, OEM Style 200 1988

88, for example.

I've posted on the board that I'm working on some replacement parts for our 240s. One of these is the capillary tube heater valve. After six months, I've determined that indeed, it's just too pricey to tool up to make an exact replacement. However I still don't like the "upgrade" 92-93 valve. I may have found a valve very similar to ours, that will, with the addition of a small bracket I'll provide, be a direct bolt in. However it will be strictly controlled by the dash lever, no wax pellet motor, no capillary tube. This means that consistency of temp will not be as good as we have now (provided your valve is working at all!!!). It will be strictly flow control. What thoughts, bricksters? It will be economical, that's for sure--in comparison.

Thanks for your replies gentlemen. Just to confirm, both of the valves I'm talking about are the older style, metal construction. The 92-93 cars came standard with the plastic, capsule style. Just as it's difficult to install the later valve into the 91 and before cars, it will take some doing to put this earlier style valve in the later cars. I have the OEM style, 75-91 valves on the shelf. The reason I'm working on the substitute is to avoid the cost of tooling for all the parts required by the wax pellet motor and cap tube.

Dave
As we have discussed before I would be interested in a valve for my 93 it was a very long cool almost cold winter in FL. Easy to replace and reasonably priced would be a plus.

Show us the pics.
Thanks
Dan

well i guess i'll ask the obvious. is this valve going to be any cheaper than the scantech plastic valve? i mean, what makes this valve better than the plastic?
