Aftermarket Parts 200 1992

I'm going to have to replace the front control arms on my '92 245 (the left one is actually broken and the right is about to go). Was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/opinions on using aftermarket replacement CA's that can be found at FCP Groton or maybe even ebay. They run around $75 each. I can get OEM replacements from eeuroparts, but they're literally twice as expensive. I'm on a budget here as I'll also be replacing the front breaks, ball joints, and while I'm in there I'll likely swap out most bushings for poly. Given that I can potentially save $300 by getting aftermarket vs. OEM CA's, just wanted to know if anyone had any feedback on these parts, or thoughts about quality issues, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

I was able to get an original front control arm used. Delivered it was $45.

Sanding and POR-15 made it new.

Check yards South of heavy snow country - less salt less rust.

Volvo Skip does indeed have a pair for 60.00 total. They show a bit of rust, but you could always have them blasted and powdercoated. I'd bet you'd come it at the same price as aftermarkets without the worry about quality. I did it on my '92 240 and they've worked out well so far.

Thanks again for the tip. Went to meet Skip and picked up the control arms (they're in excellent condition) as well as some additional parts. Skip is truly a gentleman. I would highly recommend him to anyone searching for parts. Looking forward to dealing with him in future. Thanks Skip! And thank you for the great referral.

Thanks. Ya, I've already checked in with Skip and will likely pick those up (he's actually quite close to me). I was thinking I'd just try to clean the rust and paint myself, but I'll look into blasting/coating.

If possible, see if a salvage yard may have a usable pair.

    You could always try Skip:

Thanks for the tip. I actually had thought about salvaging a set, but as I'm in the northeast (the car itself spent the first 12 years of its life in wintery Canada) rust is a concern. Given the car's history, rust is actually the cause of the current CA's failure. That said, would you still recommend a salvageable set of OEM control arms over a new aftermarket set? Assuming I can afford the new aftermarket parts, and would prefer them for convenience sake, should I be concerned at all about longevity or quality? I mean the original set lasted 18 years, so I'd like to not have to replace them again for the foreseeable life of the car.

      Thanks again for your comments.
