87 287K mi. all my idiot lights lit up and remained on. no other car problem. drove for about 30 min. more, and turned key off. turned key on and they lit up again. any suggestion as to where to start looking for the problem? should I be driving it?

My 1990 had this problem. I'm not sure if its the same problem but I know its pretty common on the 1990 model. The crankshaft pulley has a rubber bushing that goes bad and causes it to get slighty out of alignment and turns on all the idiot lights. If you stand to one side of the car and look across it while the car is running you should be able to see a slight wobble. Another tale-tale sign is a squealing belt or a slight chirping belt. I had mine replaced it cost $300 including the new pulley. While they have the pulley off its not a bad time to replace your front seals, timing belt and tensioner and the water pump. Good luck!

Check that the alternator is charging. If it isn't, you're running solely on whatever juice is left in the battery.

How does the wiring look under the hood?
