1992 245 No Power to the AC Clutch 200

I have no power to the AC clutch. The fuse is good, and I converted the whole AC system to r134 last year and everything was fine up until now.

Think it might be the switch? Is there a relay or control board that powers the clutch?

Thanks very much!

I bypassed the switch and the compressor clutch engaged. The line past the orfice tube got cold immediately, but the condensor stayed hot and felt like it got even hotter. I guess I'm low on freon causing the switch not to work?

There are two fairly common issues in the 92 series GM style AC systems that will cause the clutch not to engage. The first is the cycle switch on the side of the accumulator (passenger side fire wall), I would recommend unplugging the connector from the switch and using a jumper wire or paper clip to short the terminals together in the connector. Then start the car and turn on the AC, if the AC cools down with the shorted connector, the cycle switch is bad. If that is the case, the news is good, unscrew the pressure switch and screw on a new one, no need to evacuate the pressure system and recharge the AC as there is a valve behind it that closes when the switch is removed.

If the AC does NOT cool with the cycle switch connector shorted, then most likely there is a leak in the pressure system that must be found and corrected followed by a new accumulator, vacuuming down the system, and recharging it.

I hope the cycle switch is your problem... 10 minute job, $20 tops in the aftermarket.

You may have lost refrigerant. Check the low pressure switch located on the accumulater by the firewall to see if it is closed.

There is a delay relay that can cause problems.

Check faq's.
