Bushing problem 200 1981

I recently had lower control arm bushings and the big trailing arm bushings installed by a Volvo mechanic. The lower control arm was taken out of the car and the bushings pressed out and new ones in. The big trailing arm bushing was installed using the special Volvo tool to take the old one out and put the new one in.
For the first two weeks, all was fine, but now I'm hearing all these clunks and cracks and pops and snaps. Mechanic says the bushings need re-torqued. He says he tightens them as much as he can. The book calls for specific torque ratings. 55 foot pounds on the front lower control arm bushing, 41 on the rear lower control arm bushing and I think 83 on the big rear trailing arm bushing. Can you over tighten these bushings? If so, what happens when you do? Should I re-tighten them to the proper settings? The noises are quite noticeable and I feel like I've wasted a good bit of money.
Thanks for help
Jim

    Bushing problem 200 1981

In the 5 bushing jobs that I've done on my 240s, I had to go back in and recheck my torque values twice. Tedious, but easy. As an additional thought, be sure that your exhaust hangers are all in good shape when you go back underneathe your vehicle. I've had one break after reinstallation, and things started to clunk and rattle.

We've torqued the front a arm bushings and the clunks are gone. Its hard to get a true torque value on the rear a-arm bushing because you're supposed to torque it after you get the bracket on and torqued. So, you get a feel for what 40 ft lbs should be and go at it. It won't hurt to put some thread locker on it(blue not red). But be careful on the bracket bolts. They go into a nut welded on the back side of body steel and it would be quite easy to strip one out. I know, we just did it. Stay with 30 foot pounds and use the blue thread locker. The big trailing arm bushing is around 80 foot pounds so go at it.
