ECT? Coolant temperature sensor?
Disconnecting it when engine is warmed up would normally result in stalling, very rough idle, smoke from exhaust. The computer would assume cold engine and enrich the mixture. Diconnecting when cold may result in a minor performance change but as it warms up the above would apply.

Your diagnososis may not be correct.

What are you trying to fix?

Do not assume that the ect is faulty from simply disconnecting it. Do you have an ohm meter? Follow the tests for your sensors in the faq:

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineSensors.htm

The values for the ect are near the top of the page. Sometimes disconnecting a sensor that is not faulty will cause the car to improve slightly. The only way to know for sure is create a checklist and eliminate problems by testing.

Have you cleaned ALL the grounds yet?
