Rebuilding brake masters/calipers 200 1983

Just a question...do any of you rebuild stuff anymore? I had to on the sidedraft SU's on my '61 544 Reggie, because the only guy in town that said he could do it wanted $$$, and he only worked on British, I was sceptical. Thanx for the input. Cheers.

Dave

Rebuilding brake masters/calipers 200 1983

A couple of months ago I rebuilt my control pressure regulator out of my 85 244ti that wasn't hard to do. I have also rebuilt my M.C. but I rather buy rebuilt calipers since it's easier to replace the caliper and cheaper in the long run.
If I had the time, tools and space I would at least try to rebuild anything with in reason. Some things are best to leave to the pro's.

Yep. Master cylinder easy to rebuild. I pull ones from PnPs. Easy to open, check and replace seals, clean. I just switch out seals from other MCs.

Brake calipers are harder. Haynes manual has instructions. Again have spares that provide the parts. You'll need to rig something up to pop the pistons (eg. brake fitting soldered to tire valve fitting). Wash in dish detergent and water (methyl hydrate which is recommended for cleaning evaporates quickly though you could use it to wipe washed parts), dry, then assemble with clean brake fluid. Bleeder screws may have to be drilled out if snapped.
