New Filters 444-544 1961

I was reminded by bluePV544's thread on K&N filters (http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1407242/444-544/kn_filters.html) that I saw some photo's on the www of some very nice red foam filters.
Thankfully volvosteve left a link at the the bottom of the thread and I managed to track down the source. We previously ran cone shaped K&N's and were very happy with them, but we were looking for a more traditional appearance.

http://su-filters.com turned out to be "Old Kombi" on the BB. "Old Kombi" is now at the top of my "Volvo good guy" list and shares the dubious honour with "Volvo From Heck". I'd do business with these guys any day.

The filter housings are top class and bolted straight on without any problems.
Checkout the su-filters website, lots of designs available.

Here they are fitted to the car, '61 544 Sport with a B20 :

Does anyone know where to locate a new water bottle?

Closer look:
Note the valve cover clamps, also from the same source.

Yes, thumbs up for old kombi. I got filters for my b16 544 almost two years ago, as well as his fuel pump rebuild kit and oil filter adapter. I have finally got it going after an almost complete dismantle for cleanup and repainting and everything is performing beautifully.

JJ;

Your engine compartment looks great...I have to ask though: Are the studs on those filter long enough to pick up the nylon in the Nylock nuts sufficiently to assure they don't vibe off?...that would be a shame. They just look like they should be 1/4" longer and protruding just a tiny bit...it seems to me that after a few on and offs, and the Nylocks getting a little looser, the potential for loosing one or more would too great for my taste.

Cheers

I don't know where ZA is, but assume it has a more agreeable climate than Oklahoma. Please tell me about the unit on the left inner fender. Is it a brake booster? If so, is it effective and available?

ZA is Zuid-Afrika = South Africa. That's the first type Girling servo as fitted to the Amazons and 1800's. Not really needed on a PV unless you convert to disc front brakes.

That's a very nice car. As posted, I hope you've had some satisfaction from JP. Must be getting pretty close to fraud by now if you haven't.

This may be a sore subject, but did you ever get anything from John Parker?

What did you do about a radiator for your car? The original B16 radiator would have had the lower pipe on the other side as the water pump discharge from an b18/20. Was your radiator custom built?

Thanks to all for the nice words!
I'll consolidate the replies in one single message if you don't mind.

The brake booster is from a 220 Wagon, to assist the 122 disc brakes on the front, I'll start a separate post on the subject.

I'm not sure about the radiator to be honest; the radiator was in the car when we bought it about 10 or so years ago...

Ron, the nuts on the filters were only finger tight when the photo was taken; the studs were still in the previous position of the K&N set-up. They have since been adjusted and now have a couple of threads clear of the nut. Thanks for the reminder, it would indeed be a shame to lose such a great piece!
