Aftermarket bumper gap molding 200

Good Morning Folks,

IPD is apparently selling an aftermarket bumper gap molding for about half what dealer price is. Since the extreme heat in the DC area lately has caused the center piece on my rear bumper to shrink and peel, I need a replacement. Junk yard, you say? No time, and finding a good piece might not be easy.

Has anybody used the aftermarket trim IPD is selling?

Aftermarket bumper gap molding - update 200

Got the piece yesterday and it is definitely NOT of the same quality as OEM. I don't know why I even give aftermarket trim a chance, since I've been disappointed with every aftermarket POS I've ever bought.

The aftermarket molding looks okay, but not great. It has an unfinished look to it. The rubber is more squared than the original, and a bit skewed. I think once it is installed, I will be happy enough with the piece, but I definitely should have spent a couple days searching the junk yards.

Bottom line: IPD's aftermarket bumper gap molding is not worth the cost. For about $50 more I could have had brand new Volvo trim, and for about $70 less, I could have had old Volvo trim that only needed cleaned and re-dyed.

I haven't got it installed, or I would take a picture. I did not break a single clip removing the broken molding, but the clips are deformed enough that I cannot get the new piece on. So I have had to order 8 new clips from Tasca.

I'll post pics eventually.

Sean,

Let us know how the quality is, this could be very interesting. After our 90 244 (freshly painted) got backed into in 2002, the left front "eye brow molding" over the bumper was $138 from the dealer. Note, the dealer replaced it for free as when they put the new fender on, they didn't replace the clips and the molding fell off... their loss... and boy oh boy was the body shop manager ticked off!

Do you guys know of a trick to put the "eye brow" molding on without removing the fender. It seems almost impossible to do even with new clips.

People keep mentioning the clips, but I've never had to replace one. I've replaced the "hockey stick" trim on both sides of the piece I just bought, and neither one needed new clips; they're holding fine. Maybe my luck has run out.

I will certainly let the 'board know about the quality. Even Tasca wanted ~$140 for the piece, so $88 is a pretty good price for brand new, assuming quality is comparable. I certainly would have bought a good used piece, but my time is worth more than that to me right now, and I'm not about to put a sub-par piece on my car.

I haven't bought the above bumper trim from IPD but I think FCP sells it also. I have got the trim from P+P's in the past alot cheaper them the prices in IPD.
I think the 3 pcs.cost about$20.00.

Thanks for the response. I've bought trim from Pick-n-pulls and on eBay, and I'm sick and tired of doing ten times the work for 20+ year old trim just to save money. I bought the IPD stuff yesterday (did not see it on FCP's website) so I'll let everybody know how it looks when I get it.

I hope you also got new clips for them because it's almost impossible to use the old one's. If you don't know this already there is a old post on here that tells you the correct way to install the new clips.
