Intermittent Cruise Failure ('86-'89) 200 1986

I've tried everything: all hoses are good, continuity is good, I've swapped the computer and valves throughout. It works up to four times, then quits until I swap something else!

I could probably install the system blindfolded at this point, and while it's not critical, it's awfully nice to have (when working!). I'm totally stumped; does anyone know of something that I'm missing?

Thanks very much,
Brendan in Seattle

So I'm going through a bit of CC problem myself, although I have a 92. I'm not sure how much continuity there was between those model years. Something makes me think there was switch in system design, but if there isn't you can go to brianwiley.net/volvo/cruisecontroldiagram.pdf to download some schematics a Portland shop sent me. Hope that helps!

Check the vacuum lines going inside the car going to the vents for leaks would be where I would look next. You can have a leak there affect the vacuum pressure on the cruise control. Just plug that line off and see what that does for how the cruise works for troubleshooting purposes. If that fixes the cruise issue, they you just need to find the issue with inside the car.

Regards,

Paul
