Would it be overkill to remove the intake manifold to replace the heater hoses on a Volvo 760 ? Thanks.

Not at all. Then you can r/r the breather box while you are in there!

Not really, it is a pain to get that one hose in there. I have had success without just by struggling. If you do, install a new intake manifold gasket.
