Help needed - R Sport shim kits 140-160

Valve spring shim kits (p/n 552832) for B20 engines were listed in the old R-sport catalogs. Anyone know exactly what sizes (thicknesses) were included in these kits? Also, were there any special instructions published detailing their use? Did any of the above make it into any "normal" shop manuals or parts catalogs?

Sounds like you have a "rules thing".

My green 1972 factory manual list a specification of 1.57' for the installed spring hight. I interpret adjusting to this height as falling under the blueprinting definition in the GCR.

A "rules thing", indeed. :-)

My green book ('71) does not mention "installed height", relative to valve springs. The 1.57" is there okay, as a height to be met with a given load, but no mention of exactly how this is measured.

I do know one thing - current springs, or at least Sealed Power VS-855's (no idea when they were actually manufactured), are apparently only good for about 6800 rpm if left unshimmed. Less than that if you don't have valve lash exactly right. Don't ask me how I know this.

NFI, nothing in the Green books except the spring test heights which are the installed heights of single springs.

If you are looking for ideas, shimming to minumum allowable for coil bind usually gives the least harmonic problems.

"...shimming to minumum allowable for coil bind usually gives the least harmonic problems."

I know, I know. :-)

I'm simply trying to find something from Volvo that mentions these (or similar) shims being used in an "everyday" B20.
