Easy question: steering wheel removal, '88 240. 200 1988

Hello.

I'm trying to take off the steering wheel on my '88 240. I have removed the crash-pad cover, but underneath that is a plastic platform that anchors the horn contact wiring. There's no visible way to remove this, and I'm wondering if there's a trick to it. I'd like to remove the steering wheel and there's a piece of plastic across the opening where I'd put a deep socket.

I see small openings on the face of the plastic platform that look like they might be clips or something-- that is, I could poke a small screwdriver in there and perhaps release something, but... I thought I'd ask, first.

Thanks for any help.

Yours has come apart in a way that was not intended.

Normally when you pull at the center pad piece it comes off with the plastic attached to the pad. Then you simply disconnect the horn wires and you have access to the nut.

You need to use some type of tool that you can insert through (or around the edge of) the plastic piece and carefully pull it off.

Are there any screws on the back side (toward the front) of the steering wheel?
