'89 240 DL > the overdrive arrow comes on randomly when I start car. It is only
when I first start car. Sometimes it goes off within minutes ... other days it stays on all the way to work. Please advise, Thanks

You do not say what other symptoms there are.
Automatic?
Does OD button on the shifter have any effect?
Does the tranny shift into 4th gear (overdrive)?

The most common cause of an OD issue is a bad OD relay. It can be easily replaced or you can reflow the solder joints innside it.
