What to keep in stock for 740 700 1991

My son got a good deal on a 740 from a friend. I have had 240's only (well a non-running 740 but that's another story). For my 240's I keep in stock extra fuel relay, flame trap, fuses, filters of course, um other stuff. Is there parts that commonly go bad on a 740 to keep in stock? Thanks.

Bosche or Rex/Regina? -- I have one of each and this is the kind of question that I have wanted to hear from the experts on, too.
In fact, [At the risk of sounding like Henry Kissinger] this is a rather similar question posed by one of my posts -- search this site on:-
    1992/740-NonTurbo/220K--WhatShouldBeReplacedForReliability?

for related information. In fact, the FAQ's here might do well to include a section on each RWD model to summarize accrued wisdom and list their vulnerabilities at certain stages/ages. That would help those wanting preferring be proactive in their approach to maintenance.

I say this because a year ago my wife's 940 (1994 190K) developed a no start condition that was misdiagnosed by the local Volvo dealer who went ahead and replaced the fuel delivery system. The fault turned out to be a power stage unit in the ignition system -- which of course totally failed 220 miles from home. Total cost was $2400 (including Herz rentals in each direction and other astounding rip-offs along the way), -- not to mention $23K my wife insisted we spend on another car, in addition to mounds of egg on face.

Anyway, a few minutes research on this site would have revealed the high likelihood (and possible cheap and easy fix) of a failed/failing power stage unit for the Bosch-equipped 1994 940. I concluded that brickboard is a beautiful thing, particularly if you have the luxury of time (and/or a spare car) ...

Most definitely agree with all those parts mentioned, and will STRONGLY suggest you start looking for a speedometer for your model, was the capacitors do go out I'm told.I'm grateful to have found a good at the local junk yard, and recommend you do too! Also maybe the Fuel Injection and Engine Control Units for your possible future needs! Good Luck!

You may need a fuel pump, thermostat, brake pads, heater control valve, accessory belts and of course a timing belt.

radio suppression/fuel injection relay, Hall sensor or crank position sensor depending on what year you have, power stage, low pressure cap in case it starts to lose coolant, headlight bulb, regulator if you have the easy to replace one, IAC, maybe an AMM, some vacuum line.
