Bilstein HD Question

Hi,

I just received two struts from an online source.

The shafts of the shock absorbers are oily. Is this ok? Are they leaking or is this assembly lube?

Did your struts have oil on the shaft when you received yours?

    Bilstein HD Question

All of my strut/shock shafts had a very light coat of oil on them to prevent rust, never thick.
You could put the bottom side on the ground and push down and see if they leak when you get to the bottom. They should slowly go back up, not just spring up.

Check the born on date stamped on the shock.

      Bilstein HD Question

      Hi,

Cleaned the shaft off with a clean white handkerchief and pushed the strut down. When the shaft popped up again, there was more oil on it.

      This happened with both struts.

Maybe call Bil tech support. I have gotten either put through immediately, or a next day call back.

          Jerry,

I called them and the kid really was unsure. He said that he had never heard of both shocks leaking before.

After a while of ummm uhhhh... He said to return them. Return credit could take 30 days from the source.

Call them back and ask for a supervisor. Impress on them that you cannot drive the car without struts and cannot wait for 30 days! They should be able to replace yours in less than a week.

You bought premium shocks and expect premium service. They should give you a UPS/FexEx return mailer via email.

              Hi,

I am going to install them.

I can't wait thirty days to find I wasted two perfect shock absorbers.

Bilstein HD Question - grease is good

Those guys are correct. Grease is good, hydraulic oil is not.
