I want to glue a piece of insulation under the hood of my 240, so what is the best glue to use that I can get from local auto parts?
TIA
Tom

Remove the hood, lay it on some grass, cut insulation to fit (I used old carpet foam underpad), glue in place, glue a plastic liner on to prevent oil/water/dirt absorption. If you tuck foam under ridges, it will hold better.

BTW, if you get a hood liner, you can always drill your own holes and fasten with pan head screws.

'93 240's have a engine hood liner. If you're lucky enough to find one at a PNP, the fasteners and liner holes pattern should match. It worked for my '92. This wouldn't work for my '83 GLT. It had a liner but the holes were no match for the '93.

For the fun of Volvos.

This wont be of much help-I did look at a few sights--IPD=Grotons-couldnt find any insulation for yours. You might have to just get some generic insulation and cut it to form. I would ask though why do you wnat to do this and have you thought that aside from sound, theres also heat build up that could make problems including melting the adhesive? Ill keep looking but maybe somone else has somthimg to offer. G' Luck.

I'm trying to protect the hood paint from being cooked by the engine heat only.

Black silicone, probably. Make sure the adhesive you use has good heat resistance. Only problem with silicone will be the lack of tack - you'll have to hold/clamp it for a while.

3M trim tape? Holds like the devil, even in hot places.

I am NOT a fan of spray adhesives. Most of them fail in the heat.

Thanks. I'll try 3M trim tape.
