I recently purchased a pair of H4 hi-lo rectangular headlights from IPD for my '82 245. After reading some of the recent posts on upgrading relays al la Daniel Stern etc., my question is: Do I need to do anything more than install the H4's? Will the stock relay setup handle it? I would like to keep this as simple as possible.

The Volvo wiring for your '82 should tolerate 55/60W H4's (for your E-code headlights) very nicely. Only if you go to higher wattage should you consider a wiring/relay upgrade -- unless you (like me) just enjoy working on your car.

But you're going to be thrilled with the improvement of the E-code lighting (even at nominal wattage) over sealed beams -- just please be sure to aim them properly.

You do not have to do anything extra other than changing out the Connector to accept the H4's.
The relays you've been reading about was supposed to assure the highest possible Voltage at the Bulb.

the four square rectangle e-codes is the best setup you will get. better than them big square ones.
