Speedometer Gauge Substitute/Replacement - Auto Meter Brand ?? 700 1991

As previously discussed here my speedo gauge is dead. Tryed repairing it per the FAQ but unfortunately that did not work. Thought about getting a GPS to use its speedo function but have decided against that as GPS devices can loose satelite signal and cease working in bad weather, with large trees about, in cities, etc. So after some research I came upon a company called Auto Meter that makes a variety of speedos that can work off signal from Volvo's speed sensor. Seems like a fairly easy installation and programming procedure. Has anyone heard of this brand ? Any good ? Pro's & con's ? Can you recommend a particular model(they have quite a variety in various prices & designs) ? Thanks very much.

Have you checked the transmitter at the rear end that it's delivering
a signal? (I assume square wave pulses, maybe readable with a VOM in a
low voltage AC mode.) I hear that the output wires short, so maybe they can
be repaired with shrink tubing?

If the sender is OK, I'd suggest a trip to a boneyard for a replacement
instrument cluster.

Rear sender in differential is working fine. Proof is that while speedometer is dead odometer is still working fine. Problem is that speedo function in speedo gauge is bad. I do not want to put in a used one for a few reasons : can only use a 1991 or a 1992 thus chances are that used one would have at least if not more mileage then mine(which has 158,000 miles) and mentioned here in Brickboard is that these years were bad speedos and tended to go bad around 150,000 so a used one from a boneyard could have same problem soon if not already. Also as this is a common problem and can only use speedo from these 2 years E Bay sellers and boneyards know this and prices for these 2 years are very high($200 for one currently on E Bay). A new Auto Meter or VDO speedo with 3 year warranty is only about $100. So hence that is why I am looking into solving my dead speedo problem this way rather then putting in a used speedo or cluster.
