Just started feeling an annoying bump while the trans downshifts to first while stopping. fluid has been changed and is clean. It did this once before and cleared up. Upshifts generaly smooth. Could this be the valve body check balls? Has anyone replaced theirs and cured a similiar condition?

It might be those. There's a section in the FAQ about the valve body, how to rebuild it, and the symptoms leading up to it.

I actually thought about the check balls from reading the faq. I noticed this morning that it doesn't happen all the time and I do sometimes get a bump shifting up into the gears. If I use more throttle when I have to get on the expressway it shifts perfectly on time and smooth. It will have to wait for now because the weather is cooling off and I use this car almost exclusively in the winter.
