Unhooked the slider under cover in order to service the roof, lube, adjust, etc, which I have done many times to many Volvos. After the servicing which went without any glitches, the slider WILL NOT hook back up onto the wire gizmos on each side-it seems the metal tabs are suddenly too short so the springy thing is not catching. I have retraced and redone the whole process, oh, ten times, and for the life of me I cannot figure out the problem. The springs are fine and attached correctly to the roof; the tabs are welded securely to the cover; the cover seems to slide forward and latch as it is supposed to the front part... Anyone has experienced this before? I hate mysteries, with my Volvos anyway, and am greatly disturbed by this...

So, problem solved! The undercover slider part has the flap that actually is the part where the spring loaded tabs hook onto. This part is attached to the bigger slider piece via two metal hook like things which had unhooked themselves. So, a little further dis-assembly and reassembly and it is all better...

I have no experience with this, but I can give you a complete functional sunroof mechanism if you are desperate. I'm in Vancouver. I'll be installing a moonroof in my wife's 1993 944T in the near future. I can accelerate the process if necessary.

Purely out of curiosity, how do you put a moonroof in that year 940? One from a wrecked 960, or did the 940 have a moonroof option?

You get a moonroof out of a 960, and the headliner. The headliner isn't a perfect fit, at the top of the back window, in an earlier car. We had one from a 1995 960 in my son's 1984 760T. After that car was wrecked, the moonroof went in my 1994 940T.

I also have a moonroof from a 1994 960 to install in my wife's 1993 940T.
